Preparation Is No Longer an Advantage, It Is the Minimum

More buyers are entering the market already positioned to act. Their pencils are sharpened, financing (when applicable) is pre-approved, and their search criteria are clearly defined. Buyers are showing up ready to move the moment the right aircraft appears. This level of preparation compresses timelines and raises the bar for everyone else. In a market where decisiveness wins, showing up “almost ready” increasingly means showing up late.
On the sell side, the same dynamic is taking shape. Historically, September has been the unofficial starting line for increased activity, but this year, preparations for Q4 sales are already underway. Pricing strategies are being finalized, cosmetic work is scheduled—if not already underway—logbooks are being organized, and pre-buy inspection slots are already being scouted.
The message is simple: if you wait until late in the third quarter to begin preparing, you may be entering the race after the starting gun has already sounded.
Compounding this shift is a growing constraint that many underestimate: facility capacity. MROs, inspection centers, and refurbishment shops may reach their limits earlier than usual. As Q4 demand ramps up, pre-buy inspection slots and maintenance windows will fill quickly, leaving unprepared buyers and sellers waiting while the market continues to move.
In an environment like this, logistics become just as important as pricing.
The takeaway for buyers and sellers alike is clear. Preparation is no longer an advantage. It is the minimum required to compete. The market is rewarding those who start early and act decisively.
