Buyers were rewarded in the 2016 Phenom 100 market. In July, the logjam of supply finally broke loose as sellers accepted a corresponding price drop. Over 20 Phenom 100s changed hands in the second half of 2016 with the trend of high activity in the 2009/2010 year groups continuing. Pricing in these year groups have compressed near the $2M mark and offer considerable value. Buyers continue to be active at current price points so it will not be surprising to see the percentage of fleet for sale drop below 10% in the near term.

In the last market report we discussed the complexity of this market due to the number of aircraft for sale in Brazil. Those who attended the Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (LABACE) came away with an unexpected message. The mood was overwhelmingly positive. Fireworks throughout São Paulo accompanied the ousting of their current President signaling a willingness to turn the page. There is a prevailing optimism that the worst is behind them and an era of transparency will usher in positive economic reforms.

Deliveries for the Phenom 100 EV will begin in 2017 and several large orders have already been placed making availability scarce. The performance gains in the high/hot regime are proving popular and the pump appears primed for future sales. That being said, the market can expect the 100E market to gain in activity. The “E” model offers the addition of speed brakes, an added hydraulic accumulator to improve braking smoothness and a noticeably upgraded interior. Most of the 100E models have a belted lav and side-facing seat allowing for a total of 8 occupants in the airplane.

Outlook: Expect sales to remain active especially as the Brazilian buyer seems poised to re-enter the market. Pricing on the early year groups seems to have stabilized - we expect the later models to increase in activity with the lack of availability of the new 100 EVs.

At the time of our last report there were 23 aircraft on the market or a mere 6.7% of the fleet. These aircraft followed a normalized distribution with 25% in Brazil, just over 50% in North America, and a little over 20% elsewhere in the world. Hardly a recipe for a steep and significant price drop but that is exactly what we saw.

Currently there are only 20 Phenom 300s listed for sale, or a scarce 5.3% of the fleet. What is most notable is that prices have dropped $500K across the board since the last report. The 2010 market is showing some considerable value with selling prices in the mid-$5Ms. Higher time aircraft on an engine program can drop below the $5M mark.

Activity remains highest in the low-time, highly-optioned, like-new market. Buyers are gobbling these up in the mid-$7M range.
