It seems we’re starting to see a shift in the Eclipse 500 pre-owned market – good news for buyers, sellers, and really everyone in the light jet industry. Inventory levels are at lows we haven’t seen since 2012, and that has been, in large part, due to the 40%+ jump in transactions over previous 2016 quarters’ averages. Also note that pre-owned transactions spiked 133% in Q4 2016 compared to the same period in 2015. We consider all of this with cautious optimism, as the Eclipse market has had a roller coaster past, but all signs are pointing toward a continued healthy market.
Pricing in the Eclipse 500 market is anything but straightforward, ranging from $500K to well over $1M depending on avionics upgrades (like integrated FMS, aka “IFMS”) and various airframe upgrades. IFMS aircraft represent a great blend of value and technology, and can be bought around the $1M mark. As 500 “Plus” upgraded aircraft have continued to trade hands (those with autothrottles, anti-skid brakes, and more), values for those appear to be settling in the mid $1Ms for a pre-owned model.
The Eclipse 550 pre-owned market has developed very little in recent years, and as such, it’s been difficult to peg any trends in values. The fleet sits at just under 30 aircraft, and market values for pre-owned jets seem to be settling in the very low $2Ms.
